Keeping your feet warm is essential during the winter months, especially if you’re going to be outdoors for a while. That being said, because your feet are the farthest away from your heart of any body part, they don’t always get great circulation, which can make it difficult for them to stay warm. Today, we share five tips and tricks for keeping your feet warm, whether you’re inside or outside of your home, this winter.
How To Keep Your Feet Warm
Here are five ways to help keep your feet warm this winter:
1. Socks – This is the most obvious way to keep your feet warm, but it’s something we still want to talk about. If you find that your feet are getting cold when you’re inside the house, put on a pair of socks, or if you’re already wearing socks, throw on another pair for extra heat retention. When you’re going outside, opt for a thicker pair of wool socks to keep the heat in and any cold air out.
2. Shoes and Boots – Another way our feet get cold is because snow and slush makes its way into our shoes, then it melts and the water soaks into our socks. To ensure that your footwear is ready to handle the winter weather, inspect your shoes and boots before putting them on to make sure there are no holes for snow to creep in. Additionally, when the snow begins to pile up, make sure your footwear is high enough on the sides that snow doesn’t seep in by your ankles with each step.
3. Soak – Another great way to help your feet and body warm up after being outside on a cold night is to run a hot bath or shower. Soaking your feet in warm water will help increase blood flow to the area, helping to keep them warm even after you’re done soaking.
4. Exercise – Exercise is another way to get your blood pumping and increase your body’s core temperature. Jump on your treadmill or head to the gym for a quick running session. This will increase healthy blood flow to your extremities, which as we’ve already stated above, will help keep them warm.
5. Flexing – If you find that your feet are cold, but you don’t want to get off the couch to grab another pair of socks or a warm blanket, you can help warm them up by performing some flexing exercises. Flex your foot forward, then backwards, then do some ankle rotations. Repeat this process with each foot for a couple of minutes, and odds are you’ll notice that they aren’t as cold as they were before!
