Drake is postponing upcoming shows in Toronto, Philadelphia and Newark due to a nagging ankle injury.
Although Drake didn’t delve into specific details about the the injury, it sounds like he’s been dealing with ankle pain for quite some time, and his doctors believe the best course of action is to take some time off and let the ankle heal.
“We are over 50 shows in and I have done everything to power through my recent ankle injury and leave it all out there on the stage every night,” Drake wrote on his blog. “I hate to be told I can’t do something, but under doctor’s orders to allow me time to recuperate, I am being forced to postpone the intense three shows in a row in cities which have only ever shown my unconditional support. Toronto (my hometown) and Philadelphia (a city that was one of the loudest and showed so much love) are two of the intense three in a row show cycle that will be postponed. I was asked to postpone both Newark shows, but I have yet to perform there and so we compromised at one.”
Recurrent Ankle Pain
A spokesperson for the singer said that Drake suffered the injury while on tour, but he’s performed through the pain to the best of his abilities. Unfortunately, like we often say on this blog, battling through ankle pain has only served to make matters worse.
Again, Drake hasn’t announced exactly what’s wrong with his ankle, but odds are the ligaments that stabilize the area are damaged and unable to fully heal because of all the movement he must perform on stage. Drake is pretty active in the social scene when he’s not on stage, so hopefully he takes this time off to truly get some rest and relaxation and let his ankle heal so pain doesn’t come back during his next tour. The encouraging news is that it doesn’t seem like his doctors believe he’ll need surgery. Hopefully he gets the treatment he needs and can come back, as he hopes “with new music and a stronger ankle.”
