If you’re a follower of this blog, you’re probably aware that we focus on conditions of the foot and ankle, and while we have more than a surface level understanding of health conditions in other parts of your body, we like to fall back on our network of friends and colleagues who specialize in these areas when recommending care.
I’ve spoke to a couple people outside of my clinic who mentioned that they were finding it hard to receive dental care amid the coronavirus outbreak. Teeth are just bones that I don’t take care of, and to try and provide answers to some of them, I turned to Dr. Craig Schmidtke, a great friend of mine who is a dentist in Alabama. Coincidentally, not long ago he had given an interview to a local newspaper about how people can manage dental pain while they wait to see a dentist.
You can read the full newspaper article by clicking here, and while you may be wondering why we’re promoting a dental colleague who lives thousands of miles from Minnesota, the answer is because the product he is recommending can be purchased online and at your doorstep in days. Dr. Schmidtke is recommending the ORCA Oral Pain Reliever products, and he says that although the product is designed to help treat dry sockets, it’s also beneficial for patients who are dealing with small holes or cavities in their teeth until they can see a dentist.
“We did a study of about 200 patients here at the office and we seen the average pain go from 7.5 down to a 1 in a span of about 9 minutes,” Dr. Schmidtke said of the product.
Trust Your Network
So if you’re one of the many people who are dealing with tooth pain or wondering when you’ll be able to be examined by a dentist, consider checking out the ORCA line of products as a short-term treatment option in the meantime. And as a larger point, don’t be afraid to lean on your professional network for care or referrals during this time. If you’re wondering if I know of a good foot surgeon in Pennsylvania or want to know about the best hip doctors in the Twin Cities, just ask! Maybe I won’t have a perfect recommendation, but I can probably point you in the right direction.
This idea can be applied to anyone in your personal or professional circles. We love when patients leave positive reviews on our social channels, but no online review can do what a positive word of mouth review can do. Source information from your friends and colleagues, and you may be surprised at the amount of useful information you find! Stay safe and keep asking questions, even during quarantine!
