Job description: Surgical Scrub Technologist
As a “sterile” member of the surgical team is responsible for: helping prepare the operating room; assisting the RN, surgeon, and anesthesiologist before, during and after surgery. Experience in orthopedic and spine procedures a requirement. This position is a full time position, 401k, medical, dental, vision. Competitive salary.

8. Duties
a) Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
b) Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards
c) Inspects equipment for proper working condition prior to procedures
d) Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
e) Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure
f) Accurately identifies instruments, equipment, suture and supplies necessary in performing individualized surgical procedures
g) Helps transport patient to OR, position patients on table, drape patient with proper sterile procedure
h) As surgical technologist in the case will: pass sterile instruments and supplies to surgeon; hold retractors; cuts suture; maintains inventory of sponges, needles & instruments;
i) Appropriately assists with the proper handling and labeling of surgical specimens
j) Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
k) Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy
l) Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed
m) Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
n) Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure
o) Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
p) Acts to increase time efficiency in the OR to include decreasing room turnover time between cases. Acts as one member of the team to keep all rooms running efficiently
q) Maintains and updates instrument cards and surgeons’ preference cards
r) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
s) Documents patient-care records and other forms according to facility policies and procedures and under the direction of the Registered Nurse
t) Promptly advises the Registered Nurse taking care of the patient about the patient’s status or any changes observed
u) Assures accuracy of instrument sets/trays before and after cases to return to decontamination
v) Correctly identifies and labels medications presented by the Circulating Nurse to the sterile field to be administered by the RN or surgeon
w) Motivates self to seek opportunities to assist other members of the surgery center team to maintain efficient case times, provide excellence in customer service and physician satisfaction
x) Cross trained to function in Central Processing Department – including decontamination of instruments and sterile preparation and autoclaving
Proper use of OR equipment and instruments. Responsible to keep track of instrumentation and prevent loss.

3. Operating room experience in orthopedic and spine procedures.
