A recent study compared the effectiveness of NSAIDs compared to Homeopathic remedies for ankle sprains.
The study consisted of 449 participants who experience ankle sprains. These participants were treated with 1 of 3 homeopathic products: Traumeel ointment, Traumeel gel, or diclofenac gel for 14 days. For all three remedies patients reported similar recovery periods and minimal side effects.
These results show that homeopathic remedies can be just as effective in ankle sprain recovery as NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamatory Drugs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
Dr. Silverman Comments
I prefer to provide local anti-inflammatory treatment over oral treatments such as NSAIDs.
The law of unintended consequences comes into play with pills. In medicine we call these “side effects.” With NSAIDs these “side effects” can be big complications like stomach ulcers and kidney damage. Additionally, some patients cannot take NSAIDs if they are on blood thinners since NSAIDs thin the blood as well.
I have used compounding pharmacy’s topical anti-inflammatory creams for several years with excellent results.
