Back in the day, kids yearned to play outside with their friends. Nowadays, the excitement of a teeter totter doesn’t quite live up to a round of multiplayer battle with your friends on the new Call of Duty. However, that doesn’t mean parents should allow their kids to spend all their free time inside.
That’s the message behind the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons new public service announcement. You can check out the new PSA below!
Keeping Kids Active
Keeping kids active and helping ensure they get a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables is more important than you may think. Exercise and a well-balanced diet contribute to:
- Strong bones
- Better mental health
- Muscle growth
- Healthy weight
- Less anxiety
- Healthy immune system
The message behind the PSA is that it’s not always easy to get kids to be active on their own, so find time to be active with them. Whether that involves taking up a martial arts course at the community center, rollerblading through the park, or simply heading to the driveway to shoot some hoops, find time to be active with your kid. Not only will it help them grow up strong, but the activity is also beneficial for you!
We know that it can be tempting to let electronic devices or books entertain our children and give us a short reprieve, and those activities are great for long car rides, but don’t rely on them when you can get outdoors and get moving. Find a game they like to play, or get involved in a shared interest. There are literally thousands of activities you can do with your child, so try out some new ones and see which ones hold their attention and keep them involved.
