EDINA AND RED WING, MINNESOTA – On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, “Our Hearts to Your Soles”, a local non-profit, will be distributing thousands of Red Wing shoes and boots to homeless shelters in approximately forty U.S. Cities, including Minneapolis. This is the tenth year the Twin Cities has been involved in the program. The event will be held at the Dorothy Day Center located at 183 Old 6th Street, St. Paul, MN 55102.
Local physicians, surgeons, nurses, their families, and a host of volunteers are organizing the event in tandem with “Our Hearts to Your Souls.” Dr. Lance Silverman, an Orthopedic Surgeon, and Chris Boosalis, of Minnesota Prosthetics and Orthotics, are spearheading the event. Silverman Ankle & Foot is providing the financial support for the event.
This will be the tenth year Dr. Silverman has helped to organize the event. He believes it is a great way to give back to the disadvantaged people of our community.
“There are a number of individuals in the Twin Cities who don’t have the means to visit a doctor or to replace their worn out shoes,” said Silverman. “Our Hearts To Your Soles provides an outlet for economically-burdened individuals to receive the medical care and attention they need and deserve. As the weather gets cooler, everyone needs warm and protective footwear.”
Historically the event has provided nearly 500 needy individuals with socks, shoes and a professional foot and ankle examination, all at no charge. At this year’s event, Superfeet will be providing personal hygiene packages and licensed medical professionals and experts from Schuler Shoes will be on hand to perform foot screenings and fit shoes.
“Our Hearts to Your Soles” is in need of donations. Volunteers facilitate program administration; virtually 100% of your donation will go directly to the homeless. Just $15 can give a foot examination and a pair of new shoes and socks to one person! For more information about the program or to donate, check out the Our Hearts To Your Soles website.
