A new study shows a strong link between obese children and foot fractures.
Researchers reviewed medical records of 913,178 children from the ages of 2 to 19. Those children who were obese had a markedly higher risk of foot fracture.
19.2% of children surveyed were obese. These children were 1.14 to 1.42 times more likely to sustain a foot fracture than those with a normal BMI (Body Mass Index). The risk for ankle fractures amongst obese children showed similar results.
This study further emphasizes the need to educate people on healthy eating and exercise practices.
We’ve written about similar studies on the dangers of obesity in the past. This is another bit of evidence that being overweight as a child is not healthy, just as it is unhealthy as an adult. The concept of having a chunky baby and child as a sign of health doesn’t seem to be true.
