Silverman Ankle & Foot is once again partnering up with Red Wing Shoes and local doctors to participate in the annual “Our Hearts to Your Soles” event which provides footwear and free medical screenings to homeless individuals in the Twin Cities.
The event will take place on November 26 from 5pm to 7pm at St. Stephen’s Human Services, located at 2123 Clinton Avenue South in Minneapolis. For more information about the event, check out the official press release.
Silverman Ankle & Foot is providing the financial support for the event, and Dr. Silverman will be one of the featured foot specialists providing evaluations and consultations. Dr. Silverman said the event is one he looks forward to every year.
“I wanted to help those that couldn’t get proper footwear because of economic and societal challenges they faced,” said Silverman. “The homeless in the Twin Cities are at a significant risk given our winter weather. Snow and ice increase the risk of injury from slips and falls and the temperatures can cause frostbite if proper footwear is not available. As an ankle & foot specialist, I wanted to help.”
The event has been greatly successful in the past. Over the last two years, the event has been able to provide clothing and services to over 800 individuals. You can check out our Facebook page to see photos from the event.
Coming Together
All of the medical practitioners will be offering their services free of charge, and many local organizations have already made generous donations to the cause. Isotoner has donated 300 winter hats, and Dignity U Wear is providing 600 pairs of socks.
Dr. Silverman said that everyone benefits when a community comes together to help those in need.
“This event brings so many people together,” said Silverman. “It really brightens your day to see that there are so many caring individuals right here in our community.”
