I wanted to send out another reminder about Our Hearts To Your Soles 2019, which will be taking place next week. The event will be held at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Saint Paul Opportunity Center and Dorothy Day Residence, which is located at 422 Dorothy Day Place in St. Paul.
This year’s event takes on extra meaning, as this year will be without friend and colleague David Lewis. David was an orthotist who devoted his life to helping people get back on their feet. He volunteered at Our Hearts To Your Soles for more than ten years, as did his wife and family. Sadly, David passed away unexpectedly this month. He was a generous and caring man, and I will be forever grateful to the medical care he provided my son when he developed a serious orthopedic disease. I saw his ability and care firsthand during that difficult time in my life, and his presence will be missed by many.
In honor of David, we have decided to change the name of this year’s event a bit. This year the event will be called the David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles Event. The goal of the night will remain unchanged, and that involves providing footwear, medical screenings, flu shots, hygiene kits and other services free of charge to homeless and financially burdened individuals here in the Twin Cities.
Event Details
The event will take place on Tuesday, November 26th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Saint Paul Opportunity Center and Dorothy Day Residence, located at 422 Dorothy Day Place in St. Paul. I’m always looking for volunteers for the event, so if you’d like to assist with setup, clean up or provide assistance during the event, please reach out. If you contact Rachel at rachel@anklefootmd.com, she can help set you up with a shift that fits your schedule and provides the most assistance for the event.
I can’t wait to see you all at this year’s event, but the event won’t be the same without David. Please consider sharing this post to others who may be interested in attending or volunteering, because I hope that we can set a record number of individuals at this special event.
For more information, please drop us a line in the comments or reach out to Rachel at the email address provided above. Thank you to everyone who has donated products or their time to make this yearly event a success.
