Last night was the David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles event, and it was a tremendous success! We were so pleased with the turnout, and it was a great way to honor my friend and colleague David Lewis. Below is a short recap of the event and click here to check out some photos from the event!
Our Hearts To Your Soles 2019
Overall, we were fortunate enough to provide 342 individuals with shoes, socks, shoe inserts, hygiene kits, foot exams and immunizations. We also had multiple law firms on hand to provide legal advice to anyone in attendance who wanted it. More than 40 people were on hand to provide legal counsel, and I can’t say enough about our wonderful sponsors. Superfeet provided the shoe inserts and hygiene kits, UCare provided hygiene kits and tote bags, Redwing Boots provided the shoes, Fairview Health Services (now M Health Fairview) provided flu shots and Hepatitis A immunizations, Schuler’s Shoes donated their time as shoe fitters, and so many law firms, orthotic and prosthetic companies and individual practitioners donated time and resources to ensure the night was a success. I also want to say thanks to every single person who volunteered their time to ensure the event went off without a hitch.
I was told that we were able to provide 27 flu shots and 27 hepatitis immunizations, which is wonderful because each shot helps to prevent disease in more than one person. Thank you to Fairview for providing the shots and helping to administer them.
Last night’s event will always hold a special place in my heart. It was wonderful to help so many people, and it was a special touch to do it in David’s honor. His presence was missed, but part of me felt that he was there in spirit.
One final thing that I want to say about the night was that it was amazing to see how thankful everyone in attendance was throughout the event. When you’re in a rough spot financially, it can be easy to have a pessimistic view of the world, but it was wonderful to see how many attendees were so happy to see a doctor, talk to a lawyer and walk away with a brand new pair of shoes. Although it may be an unofficial record, I’m certain we set a record for number of smiles throughout the night!
So thanks again to everyone who came out to help make the night a roaring success. We’re already planning next year’s event, so if you want to volunteer in 2020, send a line to Rachel at rachel@anklefootmd.com!
Thanks again everyone,
Dr. Silverman
