Readers,
It is with great regret that we have to announce that the annual Our Hearts To Your Soles event will not be taking place this year. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of our world, and it’s just not safe to have an indoor event of this magnitude given how science has shown the virus can transmit. It is our full intention to revive the event in 2021 assuming it is once again safe to have mass gatherings.
So while we won’t be seeing you at the event this year, we just want to take this time to thank everyone who has played a part in making one of our past events a mega success. The David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To You Soles event helps give shoes, orthopedic checkups, flu shots and other essential supplies to homeless and financially burdened individuals in the Twin Cities, and its success relies on assistance from businesses and volunteers.
This would have been our 15th year conducting the event, and it’s been amazing to see what the event has become. Previous years have seen us set personal records for the amount of people we’ve been able to help, and we peaked in 2018 when we were able to help 365. We came close to breaking that number last year as we helped 342 people, but it’s also a good sign that more people may be in a better financial situation than they were a year ago. Overall, Our Hearts To Your Soles in Minneapolis has been able to help more than 4,000 people get essential footwear and health screenings, which is especially important as the cold winter months begin to set in.
If you’re interested in taking a trip down memory lane, check out some of the recap posts we’ve done about past events. Here’s a list of the recaps we’ve done in the past:
Also below, you’ll find a few of our favorite photos from over the years. And for more photos, check out the recap posts that have been linked above!
Thanks to everyone who has helped make this event a success, and we can’t wait until it’s safe enough to once again conduct this annual event.
Stay safe and be well,
Dr. Silverman
