We’re only one day away from this year’s David Lewis Memorial, Our Hearts To Your Soles event, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve had a couple awesome companies come forward with donations and some volunteers have stepped up to the plate, so we wanted to shout out those companies and put out one last call for volunteers. We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow.
Amazing Donations To OHTYS 2022
First, we wanted to highlight a couple of amazing sponsors and businesses who have donated supplies to ensure this year’s event is a major success. All of these businesses deserve their own personal shoutout, and we’ll highlight them below, but we wanted to share an uplifting story about one business that is giving back after suffering a major loss.
Last month, a man by the name of Mike Kotek reached out after hearing about the David Lewis Memorial, Our Hearts To Your Soles event. Mike was in the process of finding somewhere to donate some product from the Fjallraven Outlet store in Uptown. During the riots that followed the death of George Floyd, the Uptown Fjallraven store was destroyed and eventually closed permanently. The store still had some supplies, but as a result of the destruction, they no longer wished to attempt to sell the product. Despite being destroyed by a few bad actors, Mike wanted to donate some of the remaining stock to worthy causes here in the community, and the Our Hearts To Your Soles event was chosen.
I personally spent one morning with Mike that involved transporting a number of pairs of shoes from the closed store to my temporary storage center, and that day impacted me greatly. It also reinforced my efforts to push even harder for an event this year. Mike’s work and Fjallraven’s generosity have converted a moment of destruction into something wonderful and motivating, and for that I will be forever grateful.
Two other businesses we want to give a shoutout to include:
Twin Cities Orthopedics – Twin Cities Orthopedics has generously donated socks, shoe horns, other supplies and even some volunteers for the event!
Hippy Feet – Hippy Feet has been kind enough to donate 750 pairs of socks for tomorrow’s event.
And or course, our primary donor Red Wings Shoes has once again donated 500 pairs of boots that will be given out at the event. They’ve been a key resource since the event’s inception, and we couldn’t put on the event without them.
You can learn more about tomorrow’s event by checking out our previous blog, “Everything You Need To Know About OHTYS 2022,” and we hope to see you all tomorrow! And we could always use more volunteers for the event, so if you want to volunteer for either the 3:30-6:00 p.m. shift or the 5:30-8:00 p.m. shift, we’d love to have you! Simply shoot an email to Rachel, our Volunteer Coordinator at Rachel@anklefootmd.com.
Thanks again for the donations, and we can’t wait to use these supplies to give back to the community on Wednesday!
