The annual David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles event is tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited! Everything is coming together as planned, and we’re ready to put on a wonderful event for all of those who can attend.
This year’s event will again be held at the Catholic Charities Saint Paul Opportunity Center and Dorothy Day Residence, located at 422 Dorothy Day Place in St. Paul. Our first-ever weekend event will run from 1:00-4:00 p.m., and we hope this allows for a greater turnout for attendees and some of the youth leaders in our community who have not been able to volunteer in the past due to mid-week scheduling conflicts. Thank you to all the businesses who have already reached out to help with the event, and it’s not too late if you want to get involved.
We’re always looking for more volunteers to assist with the early or late stages of the event. We have two shifts open:
Group 1 – 12:30-2:00 pm.
Group 2 – 2:00-4:00 pm.
If you’d like to get involved in any capacity, please reach out to our coordinator Rachel at Rachel@anklefootmd.com.
What Is Our Hearts To Your Soles?
The David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles charity event helps to give back to members of our community who need it the most. Among other things, the event helps to provide socks, boots, hygiene kits, foot exams and legal advice to homeless and financially burdened individuals in the Twin Cities area, all free of charge. This allows members of our community who may not otherwise have access to these services to be able to get the care they need ahead of another cold Minnesota winter. These products and services may not seem like a lot to some, but it can make a world of difference to others.
As for the namesake, the event was recently renamed in honor of David Lewis, a friend and colleague who was a familiar face at many previous OHYTS events. David was an orthotist who dedicated his life to improving the foot health of others, and he had been volunteering at OHTYS for over a decade before his unexpected passing in 2019. This marks the third year that the event will bear his name in recognition of everything he gave to this community.
We hope to see you all tomorrow, and let’s make this the best event yet! Check back on the blog next week for a recap of the event, and thanks again to everyone who has already helped in making this year’s event a success.
