Friends and family are coming together this month to remember and celebrate the life of Henry Zietlow, and you can get involved by taking on the Henry Zietlow Memorial Marathon Row Challenge!
Henry Zietlow, son of The Power House athletes Sarah Risser and Nathan Zietlow, was an amazing young man that tragically lost his life in a car accident in January of 2019. I’ve spent a lot of time at The Power House for workouts and I knew Henry’s parents from Crossfit workouts. I remember his memorial service fondly and all those who spoke about a young man who had impacted them so much.
Henry was a fantastic rower, and during a rowing marathon event at The Power House in December of 2018, Henry was the only person to finish the marathon row by himself. Everyone else completed the marathon in a team of two or more, while Henry challenged himself to complete the entire 42,195 meters by himself, and he did in an incredible time too.
Take On The Challenge
This month, The Power House is asking others to help celebrate Henry’s memory by contributing to a month-long rowing challenge. The are asking participants to track how much they row in the month of February and submit it on their website. Here’s more information on the challnge:
Submit the total meters you row at the gym or at home in our google form, which will automatically be added into a total tally. Warmup meters, workout meters, Power Hour meters- it all counts! We will give weekly updates to the progress we are all making together. A meters champion will also be announced at the end of the month! With the challenge, you will see an extra emphasis on rowing in our in-person classes. We’d love to see that total number hit the high six digits! Whether you knew Henry or not, his passion for the sport of rowing and his strong spirit are here to inspire us to greatness this month.
Inspired by Henry, in my first attempt to participate in a marathon row, I decided to do the same solo row as Henry. On Saturday, I completed the 42,195 meter marathon row in 3:19.53, far behind Henry’s time, leaving me even more in awe of his abilities. Let’s carry on his wonderful memory and celebrate by challenging our bodies throughout the month of February. For more information, or to learn more about The Power House, head on over to their site.
