Procedure: Total Ankle Replacement
What was your initial medical issue?
Back in 1981, my ankle was run over by a pick up truck and broken on both sides. I had the typical ankle repair surgery with the one screw on the inside and a plate and four screws on the outside. Two years later I had the hardware removed. This repair worked very well for almost 20 years. Then the joint started to deteriorate and just kept getting worse for the next 15 years until it was unbearable.
What did this issue prevent you doing?
Everything. Walking, standing, climbing stairs, etc.
What made you decide to do something about your problem?
The pain was unbearable.
