Procedure: Ankle Fusion
What was your initial medical issue?
I came to Dr. Silverman because I was having extreme pain in my right ankle due to an injury 30 years ago. I had two screws in my ankle and a very large cyst. I had pain shooting up my leg to my back.
What did this issue prevent you doing?
I was not able to walk for any distance.
What made you decide to do something about your problem?
Over the years and as the pain had increased I had been to two other orthopedic Doctors who recommended physical therapy, which never helped.
Why did you choose Dr. Silverman?
I looked on the internet for a ankle specialist. Dr. Silverman was rated very high by other patients. What I love about Dr. Silverman is that he did not make me think that I just had to live with this pain and way of life because of my age (65), which is what the others doctors had told me. You are getting older and should expect some pain in that ankle due to the previous injury. Dr. Silverman looked for a solution to give me a better quality of life.
What treatment/procedure did you have done?
Dr. Silverman listened to my concerns and ordered an MRI. He then explained a treatment plan to try and fix my ankle. He did not make promises that all of my pain would be gone but did say he thought it would be better. Dr. Silverman operated on my ankle, removed the old screws, the cyst, fused the bone, inserted another screw, and tightened my tendons.
How did you feel after treatment?
Dr. Silverman told me it would hurt and take some work to get my ankle working again. He was right but it has been so worth it. After thirty years I am now pain free in my right ankle. I cannot thank Dr. Silverman enough. I am now able to walk into my retirement the way I dreamed it would be.
What advice would you give other patients in a similar situation to you?
I would highly recommend Dr. Silverman.
