Procedure: Bunion Correction Surgery
What was your initial medical issue?
Bunion and pain on the bottom ball of my left foot.
What did the issue prevent you from doing?
Everyday activities like walking and standing were becoming painful.
What made you decide to do something about your problem?
Tired of being in pain and unable to do simple things.
Why did you choose Dr. Silverman?
I did some research online & his patients seemed to be very pleased with him as a doctor and also with their surgical results. Also, that he had experience of working on areas that have had previous surgery or recurrence of issues (I had a previous bunion surgery in 1993).
What treatment/procedure did you have done?
Left double osteotomy for bunion correction/revision of recurrence and left 2nd metatarsal shortening osteotomy.
How did you feel after treatment?
Initially after surgery I did have some pain (which was expected). I then unfortunately ran into some delayed healing issues and possible infection. However, Dr. Silverman was always available with a treatment plan for the various obstacles we faced. I felt like he really cared about my well-being and answered my questions. It was a long road to recovery, but now that I’m a year out, I feel like I am able to walk again without the constant pain I felt before. And that was the outcome I had been hoping to gain by having surgery.
What advice would you give other patients in a similar situation to you?
I would suggest that they go in and at least get a consult with Dr. Silverman. He will tell you what your options are surgical and non-surgical. He will give you his honest opinion of what he thinks your best bet will be but will ultimately leave that decision up to you. If someone is in a similar situation to me and has had a long history of foot problems and has tried just about everything already (orthotics, taping, braces, cushions etc.) I would tell them to get the corrective surgery that they need.
