Thanksgiving has come and gone, and for some people another holiday has taken its place. Black Friday is here, and millions of Americans will flock to the outlet malls today to score some big savings on holiday gifts. Black Friday can be a long day and quite hectic at times, and while you’re focusing on the deals, you might be ignoring your feet. Before you head out to the mall today, read these tips to help keep your feet pain free while you shop.
Preventing Black Friday Foot Pain
Here are some tips to consider to keep your feet healthy when you’re out and about on Black Friday.
1. Wear flats – Heels are a fashionable foot accessory, but they should really only be worn in moderation and in the right situation. Shopping – where you’ll be on your feet for hours on end – is not one of those situations. You can pack a pair of heels in your vehicle if you’ll be going to an event later in the night, but when you’re shopping, stick to a flat-soled shoe.
2. Comfort is king – Better yet, don’t just wear any old flat-soled shoe, put on your most comfortable pair. You’ll be walking around for hours and standing in lines, and your feet will be the ones absorbing all this stress. A good, comfortable and supportive shoe will be your best bet while you’re out on Black Friday.
3. Consider orthotic inserts – Gel inserts or custom orthotics can also help to take pressure off your feet by helping to evenly distribute forces. If you have a pair of orthotics, put them in your shoes before you leave home, or if you are stopping by a department store, pick up a pair of orthotics to throw in your shoes for the rest of the day!
4. Give your feet a break – No matter what shoes you wear, if you’re on your feet for hours and hours, your puppies are going to start barking. Try to work in some breaks throughout the day to give your feet some time to relax from the stress of walking around. If your feet start to hurt, head to the food court and grab a seat to give them a little rest and relaxation.
