Our Hearts To Your Soles 2016 wrapped up last week, and it was an even bigger success than we could have imagined. Thank you to all the organizations and volunteers who came together to make this year’s event a huge success. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Although last Tuesday was cold and snowy, hundreds of people traversed the terrible roads and safely made it to the event. I was so impressed by their dedication when I’m sure they wanted to be home cuddling by a fire with their family. Instead, they came out to make others feel great.
Thank you to all the organizations who helped provide items and their time for the event. We had more than 15 doctors on hand to provide medical screenings, over 35 shoe fitters to fit attendees with shoes and boots, and a dozen or so lawyers to provide free legal advice at the Ask A Lawyer booth. Red Wing Shoes provided shoes and boots in all sorts of sizes for both men and women, which gave us such flexibility to fit everyone, and we were blessed to have them. Many current and retired employees from Red Wing Shoes also came out to assist, which was awesome. Allina Health provided bags and shoe covers, while Fairview nurses administered flu shots. Superfeet provided foot support inserts that helped a tremendous number of people with foot problems, and they also provided hygiene bags and thick socks. Lastly, we can’t forget the staff at the Dorothy Day Center, who are professionals and topped off the event as great hosts.
Overall, we helped 297 people in two hours. So while we are so happy with the success of the 2016 campaign, we’re already looking forward to next year’s event. The Dorothy Day Center will be undergoing a multi-million dollar remodel, which is incredible, but that means we may need to look elsewhere for a new venue while the construction is underway. If you know of a venue in the Minneapolis or St. Paul area that works with financially-burdened or homeless individuals in the area that could house 400 or so people for a couple of hours, please leave a comment below as we’d like to get a venue squared away as soon as possible.
Thanks again for all your hard work in making the event a huge success. It was amazing to see everyone come together for others. You guys rock.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lance Silverman
