The Fourth of July holiday is only hours away, and if you’ll be spending the day outside soaking up the sun, you need to be cognizant of the possibility of sunburn. Our feet are especially susceptible to sunburn because it’s really easy to overlook our feet. We might throw on a hat or wear some sunglasses to protect our head and face from a burn, but we don’t always protect our feet!
To help you avoid sunburn this summer, we share three simple tips for keeping your feet sunburn-free in today’s blog.
Avoiding Sunburn On Your Feet
These aren’t insider tips by any means, but the goal of this blog and these tips are to help keep your feet in mind when you’re out in the sun this summer. Not only can sunburn on your feet be painful, but it can also increase your risk of certain cancers. With that in mind, here are three ways you can work to prevent sunburn on your feet this summer.
Shade – The first way to prevent sunburn on your feet is to keep them out of direct sunlight and in the shade. You can do this by sitting under the shade of a tree or beach umbrella, or you can wear socks to keep your feet out of the sun. The warm sun can feel good on your skin, but too much direct sunlight can lead to burns. Cool down in the shade if you’re going to be outside for a while.
Sunscreen – Sunscreen can help to block potentially harmful ultraviolet rays, so make sure that you pack the sunscreen and apply it liberally when you’re outside for an extended period. It’s easy to get your ears, neck, arms and chest, but don’t forget to bend over and hit your legs, ankles and feet! Be sure to reapply every couple of hours, especially if you are in and out of the water to help maintain its effectiveness.
Split – Finally, don’t be afraid to head indoors to get a reprieve from the sun. We know that you want to be outdoors when the weather is nice, but hot and humid days can be hard on your whole body, so take a break indoors and let your feet and your body enjoy some time away from the sun.
If you can keep these three tips in mind, we’re confident that you can prevent sunburn on your feet and your whole body.
