If you’re a fan of the Mission Impossible franchise, you may have to wait a little longer for the latest sequel to hit the big screen. That’s because production has been halted while lead actor Tom Cruise recovers from a broken ankle that he suffered on set.
Tom Cruise suffered the fractured ankle while performing a stunt for his latest flick. The actor and co-producer has been keen on performing his own stunts, and this isn’t the first time he’s put his health on the line. He almost drowned while filming Top Gun when his parachute began filling with water.
Cruise’s Ankle Injury
Below, you can see a video of the stunt in question. It was later confirmed that Cruise broke his right ankle in two places during this jump.
As you can see, Cruise’s lower body slams into the wall at high speed. Odds are Cruise knew it was a dangerous stunt, because reports suggest that his stunt double, who performed the jump earlier in the day, also suffered an injury while trying to complete it. However, the stunt double was wearing a lot more padding on his lower body, so he didn’t suffer any broken bones when he connected with the wall.
“The injury is worse than was at first feared,” said a source close to the situation. “Tom did serious damage and will need months to recover.”
It’s uncertain if Cruise will undergo surgery to address the fracture or if he’ll let it heal on its own with rest and rehabilitation. Production is expected to shut down for about four months while he recovers.
The movie was expected to be released in the summer of 2018, but now the movie may make its debut around Christmas.
