Ankle injuries are some of the most common injuries during sports, and new findings suggest that roughly 90 percent of ankle sprains during athletic activity are due to poor or uneven field surfaces. Cleats can help athletes gain traction and stay upright during a soccer, football or baseball game, but they can also put kids at risk for foot injuries because kids need to understand the proper techniques for running, turning, twisting, jumping and sliding while wearing cleats. If movements aren’t correct, cleats can catch in the ground and cause knee, ankle and foot injuries.
In today’s blog, we want to share a helpful infographic we came across from our friends at the Houston Institute for Sports Medicine and Orthopedics. The infographic explains some of the common foot injuries kids suffer during sports, and it has helpful information for parents about cleats and cleat-related injuries in youth sports. Check out the infographic below, and be sure to swing on over to the Houston Institute for Sports Medicine and Orthopedics website for more useful tips!
