The new year is right around the corner, but before the calendar turns to 2016, we thought we should take a minute to reflect on another incredible year on the blog. We posted over 200 blog entries this year, and our readers came out in droves. Thanks to each and every one of you who stops by the site to read our ramblings and musings. Here are our five favorite blog posts from 2015.
5. Concussion Awareness – Although we’re a foot and ankle blog, we also focus on overall health and wellness, and no health topic outside our speciality got more attention than concussions did in 2015. We discussed which sports cause the most concussions, how athletes are more prone to other injuries after a concussion, how bloodflow is inhibited after a concussion and how we can help prevent concussions from occurring in youth sports. Considering “Concussion” is currently one of the biggest blockbusters in theaters, odds are head injuries will be a point of focus again in 2016.
4. Recapping Our Hearts To Your Soles 2015 – Similar to years past, Our Hearts To Your Soles was the highlight of our year. Once again we were totally amazed by generous support by so many people in our community. In our recap blog post of the event, we explained how doctors, podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, vascular and general surgeons, spinal and neurosurgeons, pediatric physicians, chronic/physical pain specialists, dermatologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, lawyers and community volunteers all came together to help financially-burdened individuals in the Twin Cities. We can’t wait until OHTYS 2016!
3. Ankle Injuries and the Buster Posey Rule – As a sports fan, this was one of my favorite blogs to pen in 2015. Baseball made a rule change that said catchers could no longer block the plate without the baseball in their possession after Buster Posey ruptured ligaments and broke a bone in his leg during a collision at home plate. An analytic study of all baseball injuries uncovered that home plate collisions weren’t baseball’s biggest problem. Check out the blog post to uncover the actual cause of most baseball injuries.
2. Healthy How-To’s – As a foot surgeon, it’s my belief that I should help share my professional insights with people who are looking for expert answers to their foot-related questions. That’s why we’ve published numerous “How To” blog posts explaining how to treat and prevent certain foot conditions. Passing helpful information on to readers makes blogging worthwhile, and that’s why these posts crack the top five. We wrote about how to treat cuts on your feet, how to treat and prevent athlete’s foot, how to prevent youth football injuries, how to have fun on halloween with a foot injury, how to pick out the best back-to-school shoes for your kid, how to treat a toenail infection, how to treat ankle stiffness and how to treat five common foot conditions.
1. Dr. Silverman and the Case of the Missing Shoes – As an avid Sherlock Holmes fan, the mystery story we wrote involving Dr. Silverman and the missing shoes has to come in as our favorite blog post from 2015. It’s a little longer than our average blog post, but it was fun to write and hopefully it kept you guessing until the very end. If you have a few minutes to spare, swing over to the blog post and see if you can track down the thief!
Thanks again to all our readers, and we hope you come back in 2016!
